Earth Enhancing Compound (Electrogrip BFC)
The main motto of using earth enhancing compounds is to make the flow of leakage current quicker so that the leakage current can be grounded within no time. It enhances the resistivity of the soil. This earth enhancing material is also known as Electrogrip Back Fill Compound or BFC. You will also be provided with the back fill compound material details. Besides manufacturing earthing rods Electrogrip also sells ground enhancing chemicals. BFC is white powder that is made from several conductive components such as Aluminium, Calcium Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, Sodium Oxide, Sulphate, Carbon etc. With a resistivity of only 0.24 ohm-m it allows the leakage current to flow to the ground easily without any interruption. Its anti-corrosive property also helps the earthing rod or earthing electrode stay as it is for a long time and increases the life-span. It needs to be used by mixing with water. Do not pour water on it as it will form clots, stir well by pouring the powder into water.

Material details:
As it is already said, earth enhancing compound or BFC is used to maintain the resistivity of the soil where the earthing product is installed. It is obvious that the main components will be those, whose conductivity is higher. The main elements are Aluminium, Calcium Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, Sodium Oxide, Sulphate, Carbon etc. These materials of a certain percentage are mixed to give the best results.
Working principle:
When a certain amount of leakage current flows through the earthing electrode or earthing rod, if the resistivity of the soil is more, then the flow of current won’t be smooth and the purpose of installing an electrical safety device is of no use. At those places where the natural soil has more resistivity, one should use back fill compound or earth enhancing compound. It serves a resistivity of 0.24 ohm-m and allows the leakage current to flow without any hindrance. Such way of earth enhancing compound increases the efficiency of the earthing system. In addition to these the anti-corrosion property of earth enhancing compounds also increases the life span of the earthing electrode or earthing rod.
Usage:
Back Fill Compound (BFC) offers a resistivity of 0.24 ohm-m. It is suitable for normal soil, where the soil has moderate moisture. In semi rocky areas, the presence of pebbles are more, BFC also can be used by forming layers with gel. The below most layer will be of gel which will retain the moisture afterwards a layer of BFC another layer of gel and BFC and the topmost layer will be of gel. In order to lock the moisture in the soil, the gel is used in semi-rocky or rocky areas as the quality of soil is really dry.
Advantages of earth enhancing compound:
BFC is one of the most popular earthing chemicals due to several advantages
- Enhances the resistivity of the soil
- Allows the leakage current to flow in a better way
- Retain moisture to maintain a certain resistivity of the soil.
- Anti-corrosive, which makes the longevity of the earthing product.
