A detailed guide on earth enhancing compound

When the surge current flows through the earthing rod and in order to make the flowing of the current easier the resistivity of the soil plays a huge role. In most of the cases normal soil has high resistivity, which acts like a hindrance. In the conventional method, we used to use salt and charcoal to maintain a decent resistivity of the soil but it demands high maintenance. Now with the advanced earthing system the earth enhancing compound is used for the best results. There are different types of earth enhancing compound for different soil. On the basis of the soil type there are four types of earth enhancing compounds and they are

Back fill compound

The main motto of using earth enhancing compounds is to make the flow of leakage current quicker so that the leakage current can be grounded at no time. It enhances the resistivity of the soil. This earth enhancing material is also known as Back Fill Compound or BFC. You will also be provided with the back fill compound material details. With resistivity of 0.024 ohm-m, back fill compound is suitable for normal soil. It also can be used layer by layer along with conductive gel in semi rocky areas also. This powered ground enhancing compound is also tested according to IEC 62561-7 along with ASTNG 57-06 and IS 3043.

Electrogrip Carbogem

Electrogrip carbogem is a ground enhancing compound manufactured by electrogrip. Just like other earth enhancing compounds, this one is also used to maintain a certain level of resistivity of the soil. In order to make the current flow smoother carbogem is used in those places, where the amount of carbon components are very less. With resistivity of 0.025 ohm-m, electrogrip carbogem is suitable for wetlands and seaside areas. It also can be used layer by layer along with conductive gel in rocky areas also. This powered ground enhancing compound is also tested according to IEC 62561-7, ASTM G57-06 and also IS 3043.

Electrogrip CEM

The main motto of using earth enhancing compounds is to make the flow of leakage current quicker so that the leakage current can be grounded within no time. It enhances the resistivity of the soil. Electrogrip CEM is one of the many ground enhancing compounds. You will also be provided with the electrogrip CEM material details. Besides manufacturing earthing rods or earthing electrode, Electrogrip is a powder that is made from several conductive components. With resistivity of only 0.057 ohm-m, it allows the leakage current to flow to the ground easily without any interruption. Its anti-corrosive property also helps the earthing rod or earthing electrode stay as it is for a long time and increases the life-span. It needs to be used by mixing with water. Do not pour water on it as it will form clots, stir well by pouring the powder into water.

Conductive Gel

The main purpose of using a conductive gel in spite of normal soil to fill up the earthing hole. With an excellent resistivity of 0.033 ohm-m, conductive gel by Electrogrip also maintains the moisture level of the soil. It can be used layer by layer with carbogem and back fill compound for rocky and semi rocky places respectively. The material that is used here are all good conductors of electricity. Due to its anti-corrosive property, it also degrades the process of corrosion of the earthing electrode or earthing rod.
